Business Architecture

Business Architecture Modelling should be considered to be a sub set of Enterprise Architecture as it tends to be deployed more tactically i.e. where there is a need to model specific components of the Business Architecture not all of the remnants/assets of the entire Enterprise. As the name would suggest Business Architecture Projects tend to be scoped around business domains e.g. services, processes, organisation etc whereas Enterprise Architecture tends to start with IT Assets being the initial focus. It could be argued that Business Architecture is more of an ‘outside in’ view of the business that for example a customer or supplier could relate too, whereas Enterprise Architecture is more ‘inside out’. The term Operations Model has become a popular descriptor for Business Architecture Modelling as it describes well what the ultimate output should be i.e. a functional model that graphically depicts the core operations of the business and their dependencies

The change in paradigm discussed above is significant as the requirements for each project type (Business/Enterprise) is very different, despite the fact that both project types may model the same set of assets they do so in different ways with different objectives.

Business Architecture Modelling or the building of an Operations Model is normally a discipline that is applied within a business change or improvement programme rather than a Programme within its own right.

Transform Associates have core group of specialist Business Architecture Professionals who can manage Programmes independently or be engaged to manage the Business Architecture component for larger Programmes.
